Military Career
A New Perspective for Alaska

Recruit Fish
Basic Training, 1984

Mark's love for Alaska made  the Alaska National Guard his first choice when he made his decision to join the military.
When he was being recruited he was informed that Alaska was an integral part of the strategic defense plans of the United States as a forward operating area during the Cold War. There would be no traveling outside of Alaska because Alaska was already on the front lines.
My how things have changed since 1984!

Mark spent his entire military career in  Alaska's  Army National Guard Aviation  with the exception of the brief period he was assigned to the State Area Reserve Command at the end of his last enlistment.

During his career Mark has been deployed on five state disasters including the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
Mark has traveled Alaska extensively and feels fortunate to have had a view of Alaska that  many only dream of.
Mark also feels fortunate that during his career he was able to see a cross section of the entire North American Continent at  low altitudes.

It is difficult to cover an entire twenty year  career within the confines of a web page however the following should provided you with a snapshot of Mark's Military Career.

While content with his efforts, Mark still has a desire to serve his state.   This is a major force in his decision to run for State House District 22. He is especially mindful of those in the military who, because of time and circumstance have given much more than their fair share to their country.  God bless all our service men and women Past,Present and Future.
